Promoting infrastructure development to increase visitation
The Da Nang People’s Committee recently instructed the municipal Tourism Department to work closely with relevant national agencies to jointly develop plans to increase the passenger handling capacity of the Da Nang International Airport, especially its domestic passenger terminal.
Work should start on a project to convert the current Tien Sa Port into a special-use port for cruise ships as soon as possible.
Effective measures should be taken to encourage local residents to use public transport services rather than their personal vehicles with the aim of easing traffic congestion.
Alongside, greater efforts should be made to ensure security, especially the ultimate safety of visitors during their stay in the city.
In order to ensure a safe, friendly and civilised tourism environment, heed should be paid to safeguarding food safety and hygiene, as well as stopping such matters blighting the city’s image as the overcharging and the harassment of tourists, and the operation of illegal street vendors who insist on begging passers-by to buy their goods.
The Construction Department and other relevant local agencies must carefully consider stopping issuing permits for high-rise construction in the urban districts of Hai Chau and Thanh Khe.
Besides, solutions should be found to ensure sufficient water supplies, increase the capacity of wastewater collection and treatment, thoroughly resolve environmental pollution hotspots, and promote the efficient exploitation and protection of underground water resources.
