The venue is expected to daily operate from 8.00am until 10.00 pm once it is opened to the public.

The project will consist of 16 book kiosks in total, with each covering an area of around 30m2, introducing and selling books of all kinds released by domestic and foreign publishing houses.

Alongside, there will be book reading and displaying spaces, and areas for organising exchange programmes between famous authors and readers, and such other related meaningful activities as meaningful talk shows, and exciting arts performances.

In particular, it is an ideal for readers to buy books, and sit down to read with a cup of coffee in such a quiet space.

Work started on the book street project in late 2016 which is being deployed with investment inflows from the general public.

The project was originally scheduled to open in late March this year, but, it has yet to be completed to date.

At a recent meeting, Mr Dang Viet Dung, the Head of the municipal Department of Publicity and Training, underlined a must-do for relevant local agencies to accelerate the progress of this meaningful project for the sake of the community.

As for the operation of the General Science Library on Bach Dang Street, Mr Dung remarked that it is high time to develop a digital library model through the efficient use of the Internet, apart from the upgrade of facilities, especially the existing reading space.

It was also suggested by Mr Dung that libraries should be established in all districts to facilitate locals to enjoy reading spaces right in their locations, as well as ease the current overload at the General Science Library.

Of note, the district-level authorities should take proactive measures to effectively deploy the city-approved project for developing reading culture in the community by 2020, with a vision towards to 2030.

More valuable lessons should be gained from the success of the annual Hai Chau Book Fair, which usually takes place at the western end of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge, opposite the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculptures, in a bid to develop district-level libraries in the coming time.

Da Nang has been the third locality in Viet Nam to develop a book street after Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi.
