The use of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) in Viet Nam in the first half of 2018 grew 6.54%, lifting the usage rate of IPv6 in the country to 14.43%

According to a report released recently by the Internet Society (ISOC) on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the World IPv6 Launch on 6 June, 2012, 7 million Vietnamese people have used the new-generation internet so far.

By June 2018, close to 25% of internet users accessing services over IPv6 including 24 countries reaching IPv6 traffic of above 15%, and 49 others have IPv6 traffic of over 5%.

Statistics from the Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) show that the global IPv6 application rate stands at about 17.75%. The leading countries in deploying IPv6 in the world are Belgium (58.50%); India (56.02 %); the US (44.57%); Germany (38.54%); and Japan (27.05%).

Viet Nam ranked 25th in the world, fourth in Asia after India, Japan and Malaysia and second in Southeast Asia in the rate of IPv6 usage.

IPv6 is paving the way for the explosion of smartphones, tablets, IoT devices, and other Internet-enabled devices, fundamentally altering the way people, organizations and governments are connected around the world.

Many mobile service providers in the world have planned to switch to all IPv6 service to address the deficiency of internet address, simplify networks, and save costs and resources in order to focus on improving techniques and service quality.

In Viet Nam, FPT Telecom and the Viet Nam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) are the leading firms in deploying IPv6 application. Recently, the military telecom group Viettel has also accelerated the provision of IPv6 service to internet users.

Viet Nam has more than 58 million internet users out of its 90 million people and over 125 million mobile subscribers.
