On Friday, the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment worked with the Water Resources Development and Consulting Company (WATEC) and Japan’s Weathernews Inc to discuss the pilot implementation of weather forecasting technology and extreme weather warnings based on the application of WNI's exclusive forecast model using AI, WATEC’s equipment systems and monitoring data, and existing radar systems, cameras, and monitoring stations in the city.

In particular, WNI's Nowcast model can analyse and provide rain forecasts for the next 3 hours with a narrow range (1km grid) and automatically update continuously every 10 minutes to promptly give warnings of heavy and extreme rain.

Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Hong An hoped that WNI and WATEC will support the city with tools and experience in early forecasting of extreme weather so that the city can have appropriate response plans and early action to minimise damage caused by natural disasters.

He also asked for help from the two companies to provide training courses on improving the capacity and experience of officials and experts from relevant units in applying and exploiting information from weather forecasting and natural disaster warning tools and models.
