Approval has been given by the Da Nang People's Committee to install huge letters spelling out ‘DANANG’ on the southern side of Son Tra Peninsula’s Ban Co (Chess Board) Peek at a height of 450 meters above sea level.  The project is expected to be completed by 30 September this year.

The cost of the installation will come partly from the city budget, whilst the remainder will be donated by local organisations and individuals. 

The intention is to help domestic and foreign visitors visually identify the geographical location of Da Nang from different angles.  Its concept is similar to the ‘HOLLYWOOD’ sign on Mount Lee in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains.  That sign, in letters nearly 14m high, overlooks Hollywood, Los Angeles, and helps to promote the US movie industry.
