Over recent days, the city has bustled with the vibrant sounds of the drums and cymbals of lion dances.  The annual festival is considered as a special occasion for family reunion, and the original round shape of the mooncakes is also indicative of this meaning.

The fascinating ‘Full-moon Festive Night’ programme was recently organised at the city’s Hy Vong (Hope) Village which is home to poor, disabled and orphaned children.  This meaningful event was jointly organised by the municipal Department of Labour, Ward Invalids and Social Affairs, and Grab Vietnam.

Joining in this fest likes stepping into a ‘fairy garden’ full of joy and fun for children.  Le Thi Hanh, an unfortunate girl being cared for at the Village, said that she did not enjoy any Mid-autumn Festival parties until her admission into this charity shelter.  She, therefore, felt very happy to attend the annual festival with various exciting activities at the Village over the past 3 years.

Last week, a similar event for children of local workers from the Hoa Cam Industrial Park (IP) was also held at the Hoa Tho Tay Ward Cultural and Sports Centre in Cam Le District.  Wearing nice clothes and holding a colourful lantern, a little girl here said that she was very eager to receive a gift, to watch a lion dance and to play with other peers in a jubilant and cozy atmosphere here.

According to Mr Nguyen Duc Thanh, the Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal Labour Union, a total of nearly 300 million VND from his agency’s budget has been spent on giving gifts to a total of 1,600 children of workers from local IPs.

In recent days, many Mid-autumn Festival celebrations for local children have also been held at residential areas across the city.

To date, thousands of local children have received gifts, with each containing mooncakes, candies, milk, lanterns and other items.

Ms He Thi Thanh Huong, the Director of the municipal Social Support Centre, happily said that children who are being cared for at her centre, have also received gifts from organisations and individuals, many of whom preferred to remain anonymous.

Between 29 September and 3 October, staff members and students from the city-based Dong A University together made a total of 5 charitable trips in which they presented Mid-autumn Festival gifts to over 1,000 poor children in some areas in Da Nang and Quang Nam Province.  These areas included the Hy Vong (Hope) Village in the province’s Phu Ninh District, kindergartens, primary and junior high schools in the province’s Dong Giang District, and the city’s care centres for Street Children, and AO Victims and Disadvantaged Children.

In a similar vain, gifts totalling 30 million VND were recently given to 100 needy children in Lien Chieu District.  All the costs were covered by the city’s Youth Union of Business Block, the Lien Chieu District Youth Organisation and the city’s Children’s Cultural Palace.
