In mid June, the police kept track of suspicious acts by Tran Dinh Dang Khoa from Hai Chau District, and eventually, in July, he was arrested by PC47 officers whilst he was storing 21 tablets of ecstasy just bought from another drug trafficker, Le Van Quang from Son Tra District.

Soon after, Quang was caught red-handed by the police whilst he was preparing for receiving a package of drugs sourced from Ho Chi Minh City. As a result, 400 tablets of ecstasy, 2 cell-phones and 15 million VND in cash were seized at the scene.

At the same time, police officers searched Quang’s house, and seized 4 packets of Ketamine weighing about 12 grams), 10 tablets of ecstasy, and 159.7 million VND in cash.

Having made the arrest of Quang, the PC47 officers found 10 packets of Ketamine weighing 50 grams in total hidden in 2 pots of ornamental trees inside a garage in Cam Le District. These confiscated drugs were reported to have been transported from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang for sales.

Earlier in May, the police officers conducted a secret investigation into another large-scale drug trading case involving traffickers Nguyen Si Luong and Chau Hoai Vu, both from Lien Chieu District.

These suspects specialised in selling heroin to drug-addicts, and especially to those in karaoke bars across the districts of Lien Chieu, Cam Le and Thanh Khe.

Searching the residence of Vu at 31 Bau Nang No 11, the PC47 scouts uncovered 110 grams of methamphetamine, 86 tablets of ecstasy, and other related exhibits.

At around 8.45am on 25 July, the police confiscated 5 tablets of ecstasy, 1 motorbike, and 1 cell-phone during an arrest of Tra Thi Tuyet Suong, who resides on Hoang Van Thai Street.

The offenders purchased heroin from drugs dealers, and then waited for a chance to resell them in the hope of reaping the highest possible profits.

Now, these large-scale drugs rings are under investigation for further findings.

Viet Nam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of possessing/smuggling 100 grams of heroin or cocaine or 300 grams of other drugs face capital punishment.
