On Tuesday, Da Nang’s Lien Chieu District Police gave a 4-month temporary detention to Lam Quang Dieu, 56, who resides in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Phong Commune on counts of ‘misappropriation of property’ as stipulated in the national 2015 Penal Code.

According to the police-conducted investigations, Dieu told lies that he had a good relationship with some officials from the Ministry of Public Security, and described himself as an employee at the municipal Police Department. Therefore, the fraudster promised to help anyone in desperate need of job opportunities.

In September 2017, Dieu took advantage of the credulity of a woman from Lien Chieu District’ Hoa Khanh Bac Ward as he incited her to give him a total of 400 million VND in exchange for helping her access a stable job position right at the municipal Police Department for her son.

In October 2017, the woman gave Dieu 200 million VND, and she promised to offer the rest of the money after her son officially gets the job. However, after receiving the money from the victim, the swindler fled, and he was then arrested by local police officers.

During interrogations, Dieu admitted his guilt, and the Lien Chieu District Police started to implement legal proceedings against the fraudster.
