The Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment and the Ha Noi University of Civil Engineering on Friday jointly organised a workshop on management and recycling of construction solid waste in Da Nang. Among attendees at the event was People's Committee Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam.

As reported at the workshop by Director of the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment To Van Hung, construction solid waste that in big cities, including Da Nang, accounts for 15 -25% of the total volume of solid waste generated in urban areas.

However, the majority of construction solid waste is dumped at vacant lots, sidewalks and landfills.
Meanwhile, the main components of construction solid waste are sand, bricks and concrete which need to be recycled and reused effectively and economically in infrastructure construction, thereby minimising the volume of buried solid waste.

The municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment is partnering with the Ha Noi University of Civil Engineering to study experience from international organisations in the management and recycling of construction solid waste, discuss with experts, scientists and relevant agencies to develop specific orientations and solutions for construction solid waste management, and propose management models, solutions and treatment technologies.

The lecturers of the Ha Noi National University of Civil Engineering has introduced some construction solid waste recycling models and technologies and the application of recycled materials from construction solid waste in the construction of permeable pavements.

On this occasion, the 2 above-mentioned units and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) inked a technical cooperation agreement on construction solid waste management and enhanced the capacity of manufacturing new materials recycled from construction waste.
