According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), the country’s consumer price index (CPI) in June went up by 0.05% over last month’s figure and 6.69% compared to the same period last year.

Of which, the prices of restaurant and food services, transportation and telecommunication services saw slight drops of 0.08%, 0.09% and 0.13% respectively.

Highest price rises were seen in other groups, including garment, headwear and footwear, up by 0.42%; entertainment, 0.4%; household appliances, 0.33%; beverage and cigarette, 0.32%; and medicine and healthcare services, 0.09%.

This month’s CPI has not been affected by the petrol prices rise effective on June 14.

The gold price dropped by 4.11% while the US dollar price rose by 0.26% over last month.

The CPI of the first half just expanded 2.4% over last December, which is viewed as the slightest rise since 2003.

However, the CPI’s slight increase in June can be seen as a positive signal for the Government’s economic recovery efforts, said Deputy Director of the GSO Tran Thi Hang.
