More than 5 years ago, Da Nang Port began to pay special attention to upgrading its infrastructure to better manage container goods.  Thanks to this, the port has seen an annual growth rate of 25% over the past 3 years.  In the last 2 years, the port has focused on operating more specialised vehicles for loading and unloading oversized and overweight cargo.  This has helped the port to satisfy the increasing demand for freight transportation, as well as to reach its target of becoming one of the largest ports in the central region.

Since upgrading its facilities and its loading and unloading equipment, the port has operated in a more modern manner.  There is an increasing number of container ships docking at the Tien Sa Port instead of Hai Phong and Sai Gon ports.  Thanks to this, the throughput of cargo transported through the Da Nang Port was 145,000 TEUs last year.  By the end of this year, the port will expect to have handled 165,000 TEUs on container ships.

Recently, the port completed the dredging of its entrance channel to a depth of 11.5m in order to be able to receive container ships of between 40,000 and 45,000 tonnes deadweight.  In addition, the length of the port’s Container Wharf No 5 will be increased by 50m from 250m to facilitate the docking of container ships carrying oversized and overweight cargoes.

Since the beginning of this year, over 80 billion VND has been spent on installing 2 Liebherr ship-to-shore container cranes, each with a load capacity of over 40 tonnes, along with a Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG) crane.  Thanks to the efficiency of this advanced equipment, the port has implemented over 20 contracts for loading and unloading oversized and overweight cargoes.  This positive result has enhanced the prestige of the port, as well as helped its customers in the central region to save freight transport costs.
