A seminar to discuss the ongoing “Environmentally and Climate-friendly Urban Development in Da Nang” (ECUD) project took place in the city on Monday.  The seminar was co-organised by the municipal People’s Committee and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Developed by the local Department of Planning and Investment, the project is costing 2,650,000 Euros, most of which is coming from ODA capital and the remainder from the city’s budget.  The project is expected to be completed in March 2014.

The project aims to help local authorities to not only develop and manage their urban areas, but also to ensure climate change adaptation.  It will also enable local relevant agencies to formulate plans to make Da Nang an environmentally-friendly city in a sustainable manner.

At the event, the ECUD’s Management Board also reviewed the implementation of the project over the past 2 years.  Under the project, the 2012 Da Nang Environment Photo Contest was held successfully, and some local government employees were sent to Germany and Switzerland to learn about the “Environmental Monitoring and Information Management System” project, and studied another one entitled “City Development Strategies and General Ideas”.

In addition, the project has allowed local government employees to attend a discussion on how to enhance climate change resilience as well as give technical assistance to the city as it implements its meteorological observation and environmental monitoring activities.
