Due to the current economic difficulties, Da Nang has seen a slow pace of recovery in its industrial production during the first half of this year.

Overall, the city’s industrial development index between January and June is estimated to show an increase of 10.9% year-on-year.  In detail, the total value of retail sales of goods and services is expected to rise by 18.8% year-on-year to an estimated 30,000 billion VND, equal to 49.3% of the year’s target.  Total export turnover of goods and services is likely to climb by 12.6% year-on-year to an estimate of over 870 million USD, representing 46% of the year’s target.  The city’s import turnover is expected to hit 473 million USD, a 13.6% year-on-year increase or 51.9% of the year’s target.

The above-mentioned positive results are mainly attributed to the great efforts of the local Department of Industry and Trade.  Special attention has been paid to holding numerous exchange meetings for local businesses to help enhance mutual support and cooperation among them so that they can overcome their difficulties caused by the current economic downturn.  In addition, another focus was on organising many trade fairs to help local businesses to advertise their products to local customers.

In order to expand the consumer markets for local agricultural products, top priority was given to facilitating local farmers to access preferential loans to develop their production and bring their products to local supermarkets.

Also, local relevant agencies have made every effort to increase checks and tighten the inspection of local businesses to fight against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit, faked, or poor quality products.  In the first 5 months of this year, the local market management forces have imposed fines totalling around 6 billion VND on 1,994 of the 2,252 investigated cases.

In the near future, some pilot markets will be set up in the city to ensure food safety and hygiene for local consumers.
