Following instructions from the State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV), some banks including Eximbank, Sacombank, Dong A Bank and ACB have temporarily suspended their gold-keeping services for customers.  In addition, credit organisations nationwide have been asked to stop operating gold deposits, starting from 1 July.

In the past, some domestic credit organisations had offered gold-keeping services for their clients over a long period.

The Director of the Da Nang branch of the SBV, Mr Vo Minh, said that to date some local banks have been keeping about 7,000 taels of gold, valued at 270 billion VND.  Of them, the Da Nang branch of the Saigon Commercial Bank (SCB) is keeping the largest amount of gold.
