Japanese investment proved effectiveness and potential
By June of this year, Da Nang was home to 90 Japanese companies and representative offices, with a total investment of 400 million USD, which has created job opportunities for about 40,000 people. This positive result has been attributed to the city’s effective investment promotion strategies aimed at Japan’s potential and highly competitive market.
At present, Japan has the highest number of investment projects among the 30 foreign investors in Da Nang. Most notably, the city is the only locality in Viet Nam that has a representative office in Japan, the country considered to have the world's third largest economy.

The significant achievements in attracting FDI from Japan into Da Nang are due to the active support over recent years of the former politician of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Viet Nam Economic Research Institute in Japan, Mr Kubota Teruyoshi. He has played an important role in establishing the Da Nang representative office in his country, as well as acted as a bridge to promote bilateral cultural and economic exchange activities.
The past 2 years have seen a significant increase in the number of Japanese projects in the city. In 2012, 11 of the 33 newly-licensed projects were investments by Japanese businesses. In addition, 50% of the city's existing FDI projects registering to raise their investment capital were also from there.
Recently, the Management Board of the Da Nang Hi-tech Park has granted an investment licence to the 21.87 million USD Niwa Foundry project which will manufacture moulded materials to be used in hydraulic components and high-precision parts. It is the 2nd FDI project to invest in the Hi-tech Park so far.
According to a recent survey by Da Nang’s representative office in Japan, the number of Japanese projects in the city is still modest compared to Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, accounting for only about one tenth of the Japanese projects in those two cities. Since the start of the year, over 100 Japanese business groups have visited the city to seek investment opportunities.
