Local enterprises face serious shortage of workers
In recent years, many of Da Nang’s enterprises have faced a serious shortage of workers due to an increasing trend of changing jobs. As a result, they have to spend much time and money on training new employees to meet their labour demands.
The Huu Nghi Production and Trading Company is a typical example. Although the company announced a recruitment drive for 200 workers after Tet, the number of new employees is so far lower than expected.
The head of the company’s Human Resources Department, Mr Le Chau Khuong, said that whilst his company was seeing a number of job applications, they were also witnessing an increase in the number of workers who want to quit their jobs, especially those living in the city. They are losing up to 30 people every day.

Many local enterprises are not daring to take on new work because they are facing the same problem. In particular, some seafood and textiles and garments companies have seen a significant increase in the number of workers who have quit their jobs. Therefore, they are having to employ hundreds of new workers every month.
The main reason is thought to be the unemployment insurance benefits that employees can enjoy when they quit their jobs.
According to the city’s Employment Service Centre, 3,641 local workers received monthly unemployment insurance benefits during the first half of this year. Of these, 2,266 of them are aged between 25 and 40, accounting for 62.2% of the total.
