Green growth strategies discussed
A seminar entitled “Da Nang - Development Strategies towards Green Growth” recently took place in the city. The event was co-organised by the city’s Socio-Economic Development Research Institute, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), and the South Korean Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
The seminar featured discussions about creating strategic plans and enhancing the capacity of the local government by mainstreaming green growth in the city’s development strategies. They also identified the opportunities and challenges for the city’s progress from the point of view of green growth.

The aim is to help Da Nang reach its target of becoming Viet Nam’s first city which mainstreams green growth in its overall development orientation. The intention is also to develop Da Nang into a city with competitive socio-economic advantages, as well as to bring improved living standards to local residents.
In addition, the city will strive to become a vibrant urban centre in the Asia-Pacific region, with growth-oriented hi-tech industries and top-class services in the near future.
Ms Juhuyn Lee, an urban expert from UN-HABITAT, stressed the need for Da Nang to pay special attention to promoting the development of the industrial sector and value added services in order to create new impetus for the city’s growth. She believed that this would help Da Nang to reach its goal of becoming a major socio-economic, transportation, tourism, services, and education and training hub in the central region by 2025.
