Shortcomings in tourism sector discussed

DA NANG Today
Published: October 10, 2013

As part of the “Develop a Brand Name for Da Nang’s Tourism Sector” project, a series of seminars is being held from 25 September until December at the Duy Tan University.  The event is being co-organised by the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Netherlands’ PUM organisation, and the university.

Three major aspects will be covered at these events - the city’s tourism development potential, the future targets and orientations for the local tourism sector, and the shortcomings in building a professional tourism environment.

According to the latest figures, over 80% of foreign tourists choose to visit Da Nang because of its beautiful beaches.  Therefore, marine tourism is considered to be one of the city’s strengths in attracting more visitors to the city.  Reasonable prices and the safe and friendly tourism environment are also important factors behind the development of the city’s tourism.

Recently, Da Nang has been ranked among the top 10 most attractive destinations in Asia in 2013 by the readers of Smart Travel Asia, the leading regional online travel magazine.  This will make a remarkable contribution to advertising the city’s image to international friends.

In fact, after visiting the beautiful beaches, most foreigners do not know what to do or where to go next.  As a result, the tourists’ average stay period in the city is quite short, and their total spending is therefore quite low.  The main reasons are thought to be the lack of evening entertainment areas and international-standard shopping malls, along with an unimpressive cuisine.

In November, more discussions on effective solutions to help Da Nang build a professional tourism brand will take place in the city.  Many tourism experts, including representatives of 5-star hotels and high-end resorts and travel companies in the city, will take part.
