According to the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade, the city’s Industrial Production Index in October saw a slight month-on-month decrease due to the effects of the recent tropical storms.  The index, however, has increased by 10.7% compared with the same period last year.

In detail, mechnical engineering climbed by 12.1%, electricity production and distribution rose by 8.3%, and water supply and garbage treatment went up by 5.1%.

October also saw significant increases in some of the other industries in comparison with the same period last year.  In particular, footwear soared by 76.1%, electronics 55.6%, iron and steel 34%, and clothing by 17.3%.

Most notably, there was some growth in the local key industries, especially the textiles and garments sector.  Although rubber products saw a significant decrease in October as against September, the city’s Steel Radial Truck Tyre Factory is expected to start running at full capacity over the next few months.  This will give the Da Nang Rubber Company encouraging signs of improved production capacity, revenues and export turnover.

In addition, next year is expected to see a rapid recovery of the local seafood processing industries, thanks to many new orders from their key foreign markets in Japan, the European Union, and the USA.
