Tourism sector sees significant achievements
Da Nang is making every effort to develop tourism as the local spearhead economic sector, make the city a major tourism hub in the central region, and develop the city as an eco-city by 2020. Most notably, the tourism sector has achieved a lot in terms of both tourism products and building infrastructure as it moves towards creating and upgrading the quality of tourism services. Local security and social order have been ensured, and the tourism environment has been gradually improved. As a result, the city has attracted an increasing number of both domestic and foreign tourists.
Despite the recent global economic downturn, the local tourism industry has flourished in recent years. The city has seen an average 19% year-on-year increase in the number of tourist arrivals over the period 2004 - 2013. Domestic visitor numbers rose by 21%, foreigners increased by 12%, and tourism revenues increased by an average of 24% each year. During the last 9 months, the number of tourist arrivals to Da Nang has increased by 19.6% to 2.5 million. 555,000 of them were foreigners, representing a 16% year-on-year increase, whilst the remainder were domestic visitors, a 20.5 % rise.
However, many problems at some of the local tourism attractions, such as the harassment of tourists and the presence of itinerant beggars and street vendors, have not yet been solved effectively.
The city’s authories are urging the relevant agencies to take effective measures to make Da Nang a safer and more friendly destination for both domestic and foreign travellers. The aim is to attract more visitors from both home and abroad to our beautiful seaside city.
