Volume of cargo hits 5 million tonnes
On Wednesday morning, the first 200 containers of 2014 were loaded onto the Gemadept Company's Pacific Express ship, docked at the Da Nang Port, for transportation to Singapore.
In 2013, the total volume of cargo transported through the Da Nang Port reached over 5 million tonnes, up 9% year-on-year in volume and 13.26% above target. The volume of containerised cargo has risen by 16% year-on-year to 167,500 TEUs, which is the highest total ever recorded in the city.

Over the past year, the Da Nang Port has also welcomed 116,000 passengers from over 100 international luxury cruise ships. As a result, the city earned about 480 billion VND in revenue, the highest ever recorded in the city. The port also contributed nearly 30 billion VND in taxes to the city’s budget.
This year, the port has set targets of handling about 5.3 million tonnes of cargo, including 190,000 TEUs on container ships, and welcoming 120,000 cruise ship passengers.
