Sedge products prove popular
Da Nang’s beach tourism is attracting a large number of domestic and foreign visitors to the city this summer. Grasping this opportunity, some local handicraft producers have launched a wide range of souvenirs made from sedge. These products are becoming popular with visitors because of their eye-catching designs and durable, environmentally-friendly, materials.
Sedge products like handbags, hats and sandals are on sale at souvenir shops near the Han Market.

The owner of the Ngoc Dung handicrafts shop in the market, Ms Quang Thi Ngoc Dung, said that she sells between 200 and 300 sedge products every week to visitors, mainly those from Asian countries. During the peak travel periods for tourists, local travel companies also order between 50 and 100 sedge products each to present to their customers.
According to local travel agents, the majority of international visitors are likely to visit Da Nang instead of Quang Nam Province’s Hoi An City and Hue Citadel over the next few years. Therefore, sedge-made souvenirs are expected to have great potential for sales. However, the city’s tourism sector is facing difficulties in establishing a dedicated souvenir shopping area, which could be a popular stop-off for travellers to the city.
