A workshop entitled “Providing Support for Tourist Destination Management in the Central Coast Localities of Da Nang, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam Provinces” took place in Da Nang on Wednesday.

The workshop was co-organised by the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism with technical support from the European Union-funded “Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Programme”, or EU Project for short.  The project aims to help the 3 localities to manage their own tourist destinations in particular, and to promote the development of responsible tourism in the central region in general.

During the event, the EU Project’s international expert, Mr Robert Travers, pointed out the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for tourism development in each of the 3 localities.  The results were collected from his working visits to them between 7 May and 17 June.  He also introduced some cooperative aspects to improve the tourist destination management in these localities, advertise their tourist attractions to visitors, and train tourism sector staff.

During 2014, apart from establishing consultative forums for tourist destination management, the EU Project will focus on conducting surveys of tourists’ demands, and developing the central region’s responsible tourism products.  Special attention will also be paid to building and advertising a regional tourism brand name, strengthening public-private dialogue, and training more human resources for the region’s tourism sector.
