Fines imposed on violations of marine regulations
On Saturday, the Han River Border Station in Da Nang fined the captain of tourist boat Thao Van 2 from Hai Chau District, 44-year-old Do Xuan Thong, for his negligence which had caused the boat to sink.
At dawn on 21 July, the boat which was being steered by Mr Thong crashed into a pier of the Han River Bridge and the boat sank after the collision. Fortunately, the 10 passengers on board along with crew were successfully rescued by other boats operating nearby.
On the same day, the Ngu Hanh Son People’s Committee decided to impose a fine of 16 million VND on 42-year-old Nguyen Viet Tuyet from Hai Chau District for illegally extracting 15m3 of sand from Ngu Hanh Son District’s Man Quang River using a hydraulic pump.
A local inter-disciplinary inspection team recently imposed a 24 million VND fine on 39-year-old Le Dinh Oc from Quang Ngai Province for illegally exploiting marine resources at the Cape of Nghe on the Son Tra Peninsula. The illegal action could cause the extinction of some underwater creatures, as well as pose a danger to the regeneration and growth of some coral reefs which are under strict protection.
