Industry maintains steady growth
According to the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade, the city’s industrial sector has maintained steady growth over the past 6 months. The local industrial production value has risen by 12.2% year-on-year to hit around 19 billion VND. Of special note, the total export turnover of the 29 March Textiles and Garments Company hit 20.7 million USD, an increase of 40.4% year-on-year, and the highest ever recorded by the company. Most of the local textiles and garments, leather footwear, and seafood processing businesses have orders from their clients for later this year.
Over the first half of the year, the city’s construction sector, especially that of the private sector, has seen positive signs with a corresponding increase in the purchase of building materials. As a result, there has been a significant increase in the production of building materials such as cement, steel and support materials.
The remarkable achievements above have been mainly attributed to the great efforts of the department and relevant agencies in effectively implementing the city’s “Year for Business 2014” programme. In addition, the city’s preferential support policies have helped local businesses promote their production and trade activities, and expand into new domestic and foreign markets.
During the period, the high consumption of electricity, electrical and refrigeration equipment, and drinks has led to an increase in the production of these items.
In May and June, China's illegal placement of the HD-981 oil drilling rig in Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone caused difficulty for local fishermen. The city’s seafood processing businesses, therefore, decided to buy seafood from the southern region’s markets to ensure sufficient supplies for processing. Nevertheless, in the first half of this year the Central Region Seafood Import/Export Company earned 17.78 million USD from exports, a 44.3% rise against last year, and the Duy Thanh Handicraft Products Export Company made 1.43 million USD, a 47% increase compared with the same period last year.
