Closed model to be developed for fisheries

In an attempt to reach its target of becoming the strongest fisheries development centre in the central region, and in Viet Nam as a whole, Da Nang has given top priority to promoting offshore fishing activities, with a focus on increasing the number of high-capacity fishing boats.  In addition, special attention has been paid to comprehensively developing fishery logistics services.

Da Nang now has around 2,000 fishing boats operating in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa fishing grounds.  About 242 of these are over 90hp, and nearly 100 are over 400hp.

Although the city is seeing a significant increase in trade in seafood and provisions at sea, the offshore fishermen have yet to earn high profits due to their lack of information about seafood prices on the mainland.

To solve this problem, a company in the city is planning to develop a closed model for seafood catching, transporting, processing and exporting.  So far, the company is cooperating with the owners of 17 fishing boats to implement the project.  The company will buy the seafood caught at sea directly from these boats and supply fuel and necessary provisions to them, which will help the local fishermen stay out at sea for longer.  The company will be transparent and clear about the current prices of seafood on the mainland in order to create trust amongst the fishermen.

The company has also built 2 seafood processing plants.  It is expected to build 2 new high-capacity support ships in the near future using preferential loans from the Vietnamese government’s 10 trillion VND credit package.  As a result, the quality and therefore the value of the exported seafood will be improved for the international markets.
