Future planning projects appraised
The Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, Mr Tran Tho, and some local authority representatives recently met to assess a number of local planning projects and their architectural designs. The municipal Department of Construction and the city’s Construction Planning Institute also reported on adjustments to some of the projects.
The Department of Construction suggested that the Han Market’s existing 2-storey building on Tran Phu Street should be kept unchanged, or upgraded if necessary, but a new 26-storey building should be constructed with its entrance on Bach Dang Street. These suggestions are designed to create a better trading environment for the market’s traders.

Meanwhile, a rebuild of the Con Market was approved by the city authorities in 2011 which will add 2 blocks of between 25 and 33 storeys. The Department of Construction will select a suitable investor for the project before the end of this year. Work will begin in the 2nd quarter of next year, and it is expected to be completed within 3 years. To date, only the Viet Nam Investment Development Group has registered an interest in the project.
Also at the meeting, Secretary Tho asked local relevant agencies to appeal for more domestic and foreign investments to develop the Han and Con markets into commercial centres and hotel complexes. This will help to create more architectural landmarks for the city, as well as ensuring traditional trading models in the local markets.
The Department of Construction was also urged to suggest more potential sites for the construction of an international conference centre. The cost of construction will be paid by the State’s budget, whilst the municipal Department of Planning and Investment will be responsible for making preparations for the project.
The 1,249 m2 Hoang Sa Exhibition House will be constructed on Hoang Sa Street and, following authority approval, the Thuan Phuoc Seafoods and Trading Corporation will build a 2,100m2 kindergarten in Son Tra District for the children of workers at the Tho Quang Seafood Services Industrial Park.
The Sun Group has worked with local relevant agencies to assess the feasibility of building dykes at a new urban area project incorporating the Dong No eco-urban area in Cam Le District, and a countryside culture park and riverside tourism complex in Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Quy Ward. The Group has decided not to proceed with the 521ha Hoa Phong-Hoa Phu golf course project. The city leaders also urged Sun Group to speed up the completion its golf course project near the Ba Na Hills Resort.
Also at the meeting, approval was given for the construction of a hydrofoil station and associated jetties in Lien Chieu District on an area located between a public bathing area and the Xuan Thieu extended tourism site. No accommodation services will be allowed to be built, ensuring sufficient airy space for beach activities as well as the aesthetics of the project’s architectural design.
