Over 65.6 trillion VND to be spent on transport projects by 2020
The Da Nang People’s Committee recently approved a project to accelerate the development of the city’s transport systems towards 2020 with a vision towards 2030.
Apart from upgrading the existing local internal transport infrastructure, the focus will be on building inter-provincial roads including expressways linking Da Nang with the provinces of Quang Tri and Quang Ngai. In addition, local highways such as 14B, 14G, and the route on the southern side of the Hai Van Tunnel will be upgraded in accordance with the national transport development plans. Special attention will be paid to building more bridges across local rivers - the Han, Cam Le, Yen, Tuy Loan, Co Co, Lo Giang, Vinh Dien and Cu De - in the near future.
With regard to the city’s public passenger transport services, there will be a metro network linking urban areas in the inner-city with those on the northern and southern sides of the city. In addition, 3 tram lines and 4 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes will be created within the city.
As for the city’s sea transport systems, the emphasis will be on developing Da Nang Port into a national-level general port in the future, as well as an international gateway for the central region. Further cruise ship wharfs will be constructed at Tien Sa Port on the Son Tra Peninsular, with tourist boat jetties along the Han River and at the local beaches of Pham Van Dong, T20 and Non Nuoc.
The existing railway station will be relocated to Lien Chieu District by 2020, with the new station covering an area of 33ha. Meanwhile, a 20km section of the national route and the Hai Van Tunnel will be rebuilt by 2030.
Meanwhile, Da Nang International Airport will be expanded to be able to handle over 6 million passengers and 200,000 tonnes of freight per year by 2020. The airport will also aim to reach its target of handling 10 million passengers and one million tonnes of freight by 2030.
In total, over 65.6 trillion VND is expected to be spent on the city’s transport development projects by 2020, and that figure will have increased to over 155 trillion VND by 2030. The implementation of these projects will be funded by the State budget, official development assistance (ODA) capital, and commercial loans. The implementation of these future transport projects will be based on investment models such as build-transfer (BT), build-operate-transfer (BOT), and public-private partnership (PPP).
