Promoting MICE tourism in current low season

DA NANG Today
Published: October 10, 2014

According to Da Nang’s tourism experts, the city’s MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) tourism can bring in a much higher revenue for the city than the other types of tourism because it attracts a large number of high-spending visitors.  The majority of MICE tour bookers are businesses who want to combine organising conferences or seminars with travelling.

The city is seeing a significant decrease in the volume of tourist arrivals during its current tourism low season.  To attract more visitors to the city, and to promote the advantages of Da Nang for MICE tourism, the city’s tour organisers are making every effort to offer preferential policies and promotions for their clients, as well as improve the quality of their customer services.

The Director of the MICE Tourism Centre of the Da Nang-based Viet Nam Tourism Company (Vitours), Mr Van Hong Hai, affirmed that, like Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang is emerging as an ideal MICE destination thanks to its favourable geographical position, its improved infrastructure, and its incentive policies for the tourism sector.  He said that, whilst the city is likely to see a remarkable decline in demand for family vacations between September and February next year, this is a suitable period for agencies and enterprises from the city to organise conferences, seminars, and year-end parties.  Therefore, Vitours is offering various attractive MICE packages at reasonable prices to meet the varying demands of the market, both domestic and international.  Amongst these are packages for the autumn and winter which consist of holding conferences, playing golf, and participating in team-building activities.

Apart from their participation in the “2014 Tourism Stimulus in Da Nang” programme, some of the city’s travel companies have cooperated effectively with local service providers to give the best prices to their customers.  In particular, since August the Viet Nam Travel Mart Company has cooperated with airlines, local 3 to 5-star hotels, and transportation service providers to offer up to 40% off its tours.  The company is prepared to receive MICE delegations of over 30 members each who will stay at 3 to 5-star hotels in Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue or Dong Hoi cities.
