Flower growers start Tet preparations
Fresh flowers will be indispensable for decorating homes over the forthcoming Tet Festival (19 February 2015). Therefore, in these first few days of the 11th lunar month, Da Nang’s flower growers have begun growing a wide variety of flowers ready for Tet.
Around 10,000 pots of lilies of various types such as sorbonne and tiger, are being planted up at the Van Duong Flowers and Ornamental Plants Service and Trading Cooperative in Hoa Vang District. The cooperative is using 30,000 lily bulbs, worth 18,000 VND each, and 2,500 of these have been provided by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Apart from the lilies, many other types of flowers are also being grown at the cooperative, including chrysanthemums, hollyhocks, gerberas and dahlias.
In Hai Chau District’s Hoa Cuong Nam Ward, 60,000 pots of chrysanthemums are being prepared, 20,000 fewer than last year, but the quantity of lily pots remains unchanged at 20,000. About 60,000 pots of other flowers, such as begonias, petunias, cockscombs, hollyhocks and gerberas, are also being planted up in the ward.
Despite their abundance, however, the supply of Tet flowers is unlikely to meet the demand from local residents over the forthcoming Tet Festival because many of the locally-grown flowers will be used for public floral displays on local streets.
