Urban development strategies in Hai Chau District

Reporter Hoang Hiep from the Da Nang Newspaper recently interviewed the Secretary of the Hai Chau District Party Committee, Mr Dang Viet Dung, to gather information on the district’s urban development strategies.

Secretary Dung affirmed that so far this year the district authorities have made great efforts to improve urban order management, with a focus on local streetside pavements and roadways.

Currently, importance is being attached to establishing a specialised eating and drinking area on Huynh Thuc Khang Street, and a fashion goods shopping area along a section of Le Duan Street, between its intersections with Tran Phu and Ong Ich Khiem streets.  The implementation of these projects will be completed by the end of this month in order to satisfy the demand of local residents during the Christmas and New Year period.

Secretary Dung remarked that the establishment of these specialised areas will help to promote the popularity of these streets in terms of trading activities and to promote civilised trading activities to bring more benefits to the city’s budget.  In addition to boosting the district’s economic development, the projects will ensure urban order by the upgrading of the local infrastructure systems and re-arrangement of trading activities.  In particular, these areas will become attractive venues for local residents, as well as help to attract more visitors from both home and abroad in the years ahead. 

The district’s leader also said that special attention would be paid to taking advantage of the local government’s support policies in order to establish even more specialised trading areas for electronic and pharmaceutical products, books and souvenirs, as well as to develop the Bach Dang and Le Duan streets into areas for cultural events and festivals.

Traders in the specialised areas are required by the district’s authorities to sell good quality goods, publicly display their prices, and ensure adequate customer service.  In addition, the local relevant agencies will increase checks over the origin of products on sale in these areas and their prices, as well as tighten up the food safety and hygiene management.  Furthermore, heed will be paid to promoting the publicity of the local specialised areas, and cooperating with local travel agencies and tour guides’ clubs in order to bring more visitors to these locations.
