Viet Nam's mobile phone exports up 11% to 23.6bn USD last year
Mobile phones and parts raked in the biggest export revenue for Viet Nam last year, customs data show.
By the end of December 2014, Viet Nam had shipped 23.6 billion USD worth of mobile phones and parts, the Viet Nam Customs recently said on its website.
Mobile phones and parts expanded by 11.1%, or 2.36 billion USD, from 2013, and topping the list of the Southeast Asian country’s export staples.

It was followed by textiles and garments, which posted 20.9 billion USD in turnover in 2014, and computers and parts, 11.4 billion USD, according to the customs statistics.
Other export staples include footwear (10.3 billion USD), seafood (7.8 billion USD), and crude oil (6.9 billion USD).
The EU last year imported 8.45 billion USD worth of mobile phones and parts from Viet Nam, a 3.6% increase year on year. The European bloc is Viet Nam’s largest mobile phone importer, accounting for 36% of the total export revenue.
The Southeast Asian country’s mobile export to UAE topped 3.63 billion USD, up 6.1% from 2013, whereas the respective shipments to the U.S. and India were 1.54 billion USD and 890 million USD.
Exports to the U.S. rose more than two times compared to 2013.
Viet Nam posted a record trade surplus of 2.14 billion USD, with 150.19 billion USD worth of exports against 148.05 billion USD imports, according to the Viet Nam Customs.
