Viet Nam's military-run Viettel Group opened its central region branch in Da Nang on Thursday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the municipal People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, praised Viettel for its appreciation of the city’s great potential for telecommunications and information technology (IT) development.  He applauded the efforts and significant contributions made by the group over recent years, which has helped Da Nang become a telecommunications and IT hub in the central region.

Chairman Tho also took the opportunity to appeal for the Viettel Group to invest in the local Hi-tech and IT industrial parks.

The central region branch has been given permission by the People’s Committee to build an IT centre in an urban area on the western side of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge.  The construction of the 5.8ha, 60-storey centre is expected to begin this year.
