Outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs honoured

A ceremony took place in Da Nang on Tuesday to honour 100 outstanding local businesses and entrepreneurs in 2014.

Addressing the event, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Vo Duy Khuong highlighted the important role of the local business community and its entrepreneurs in promoting the city’s socio-economic development.  The city leader also remarked that the event aims to honour significant contributions made by local businesses and entrepreneurs to the city’s progress, as well as identify ways to further the development of the local business community until 2020.

According to the latest statistics released by the Steering Board for the city's “Year for Business 2014” programme, local businesses contributed a total of over 7 trillion VND to the city’s tax collections, of which 2.2 trillion VND was from local private business. 

Also last year, the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) climbed by 9.28% against 2013 to hit an estimated 41.714 trillion VND.

Over the last year, the city’s production value of the industrial and construction sectors showed an increase of 10.2% year-on-year to reach an estimated 37.540 trillion VND.  In addition, the total value of services hit an estimate of over 39.292 trillion VND, up 9.3%, whilst the production value of agriculture, forestry and fisheries reached an estimated 2.202 trillion VND, up 3.6%.

Last year, the city earned around 1.575 billion USD from exports, an increase of 14.5% compared with 2013.  The total turnover of exported goods climbed by 13.8% year-on-year to an estimated 1.155 billion USD.  Meanwhile, the total value of retail sales and services rose by 16.5% year-on-year to 420 million USD.

In addition, the total value of retail sales of goods and services from local commercial activities increased by 17.6 % year-on-year to over 62.586 trillion VND. 

Over the past year, the city welcomed around 3.8 million visitors, an increase of 21.9% against 2013.  Of this figure, 955,000 were foreign visitors, a 28.5% year-on-year increase.  This helped the city to earn an estimated 9.740 trillion VND from tourism, an increase of 25.1% year-on-year, as well as created employment for thousands of employees.
