Song Thu Corporation - the pride of city's shipbuilding industry
Da Nang’s Song Thu Corporation has become a nationally and internationally renowned shipbuilding establishment. In recent years, many of the ships built by the Corporation have been operating in Viet Nam’s territory waters to help safeguard the nation’s sovereignty over its sea and islands.
The Corporation is responsible for building and repairing ships for the Vietnamese navy, the border guard and marine police forces, the maritime search and rescue coordination centres, and non-military agencies nationwide.
Viet Nam’s most modern coastguard ship, CSB 8002, was launched by the Song Thu Corporation last year |
The Corporation has seen rapid development over recent years thanks to its applications of advanced technology and the purchase of copyrighted ship designs.
Most notably, in 2005 the Corporation became the first shipbuilding company in Viet Nam, and the second in the South East Asia region after Singapore, to successfully build a boat lift system using electric motors. The system was designed by the UK company Rolls Royce which provides power units for aircraft, ships and land applications.
Over recent years, numerous multi-purpose vessels, involving complicated building techniques, have been supplied to the Viet Nam Coast Guard, whilst others, including harbour tugboats, have been exported to other countries worldwide.
The Corporation’s staff have so far developed over 340 scientific studies about technological innovations which have been successfully brought to fruition.
