Fishermen need to improve onboard storage to increase profits
Currently, Da Nang’s fishermen are earning only small profits from their catches due to the low quality of their products.
Most local fishermen usually store their newly-caught seafood in frozen storage compartments filled with foam to lengthen their products’ freshness. However, the foam layers, which have now been used for a very long time, are able to absorb water. This causes the fish to spoil, smell bad and become bruised during the week-long fishing trips.

It is estimated that low quality fish can be sold to local seafood traders at the city’s Tho Quang fishing wharf at around 20 million VND per tonne. If the fish could be preserved by better methods, they could be purchased at 30 million VND per tonne. This would help local fishermen to earn hundreds of million VND in profits every year.
