According yesterday’s decision by the Da Nang authorities, a driving range in the city’s Thanh Nien (Youth) Park has been abolished due to its inefficient operation.

The nearly 30 billion VND project was developed by the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.  Work started on the 43,100m2 project on 14 June 2012, and it was officially completed in August 2014.

The driving range was facing some difficulties due to a severe shortage of equipment, including golf balls and clubs.  In addition, its business activities brought low benefits because this type of sport has yet to be popular with local residents.

Municipal Party Committee Secretary Tran Tho stressed the need to convert this site into other services.  In detail, he suggested that the existing building at the venue should be upgraded into a gymnasium for indoor sports including table tennis, billiards, bodybuilding, martial arts and dancing.  Also, importance should be attached to appealing for donations from local organisations and individuals to develop the existing area where golfers practice their golf swing into mini tennis courts and football fields.
