First stage of new waste treatment plant opens
The 1st stage of a solid waste treatment plant project, the largest of its kind in the central region, officially began operating at Da Nang’s Khanh Son Waste Dump on Saturday.
Covering an area of 10ha, the whole project will cost nearly 900 billion VND.
In this 1st stage, the plant is able to treat 200 tonnes of domestic waste per day. When the 2nd stage is completed next year, the plant will raise its daily treatment capacity to 700 tonnes.

The plant is the first in Viet Nam to apply modern technologies to radically recycle solid waste to produce environmentally friendly fuel products.
Solid waste is classified into plastics, organic waste, debris and glass bottles. Using the thermal cracking process, plastics are recycled into heating oils used in industrial production activities. Organic waste will be converted into biochar products, whilst debris and glass bottles will be recycled to produce oven-fired bricks used in the local construction sector.
