Delayed beachside projects wasteful

There are currently many incomplete resort projects along Da Nang’s beautiful Hoang Sa-Vo Nguyen Giap-Truong Sa beachfront.  The construction sites of these projects have become overgrown with shrubs and weeds over recent years, and they have adversely affected the surrounding environment and the daily lives of local residents living nearby.

The delayed projects include the foreign-invested, 8,000m2 De Nhat tourism and entertainment project, the 45,000m2 De Nhat tourism area, the 4,000m2 Huy Khanh sports and entertainment area, and a 800 m2 windsurfing training centre.

Over recent years, the Da Nang authorities have issued many ultimatums to the developers of delayed projects asking them to begin construction of their projects or face having their construction licences revoked.

Following last month’s approval from the municipal People’s Committee, local relevant departments have now completed their inspections of a total of 16 delayed projects along the coast road.

The Director of the city’s Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, Mr Nguyen Dieu, remarked that his unit will ask permission from the municipal government to revoke the investment licences of at least 5 seaside projects due to delays in their implementation.

According to the city’s Department of Finance, the suspended seaside projects are criticised as wasteful and ineffective, whilst the city has yet to collect land use fees from these sluggish projects.
