Covering an area of 44,000m2, the new 2-storey terminal will feature 10 boarding gates and be able to handle 4 million passengers per year. The construction is scheduled to start in December 2015 and it is expected to be put into use in September 2017.
In addition, the airport's existing terminal will be installed with more modern equipment, including extra skybridges connecting the terminal building to the aircraft, freight transport lines, and scanners.
Transport Minister Thang remarked that the new terminal is the city’s most important project in preparation for the 25th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, which will be held in Da Nang in October 2017. It will also help the city to deal with passenger overload at the airport. He stressed the need, therefore, for local relevant agencies to make every effort to keep the project on schedule.
Mr Thang said that the relocation of the city's railway station is an important project in the national transport sector. He noted that there will also be a new project running the railway through the Hai Van Tunnel and he suggested that the design and selection of the new location for the railway station should be carefully considered in order to allow the new railway project to easily connect with the new railway station.
Vice Chairman Tuan thanked the Ministry of Transport for helping to accelerate the preparatory work for the city’s two large projects. He vowed that his city would provide active support for, and work closely with, the projects’ management units and developers to ensure their quality and progress.
