On Sunday morning, work started on the new international terminal at Da Nang International Airport.

The total cost of the work will be about 3.5 trillion VND (158 million USD) which will come from the city’s International Airport Investment and Exploitation Joint Stock Company plus commercial loans from the city's branches of the Bank for the Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV), and the Viet Nam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank).

The project will comprise 3 main sections: the international passenger terminal, an overpass in front of the terminal, and a new parking area.

The 48,000m2 2-storey terminal will feature 20 emigration and 22 immigration counters, 10 boarding gates with 4 skybridges and 6 bus gates, plus 2 baggage loading and 4 baggage unloading areas.  There will also be a service area featuring souvenir and food and drinks stalls allowing passengers to relax whilst waiting for their flights.

The 623m-long and 7m-wide overpass will have 2 traffic lanes and 2 x 1m-wide pedestrian sidewalks.  Covering an area of 42,000m2, the parking area will be able to handle four hundred and sixteen 4 to 16-seater cars, and 20 coaches of more than 45 seats.

The project is expected to be completed by 29 March 2017 to mark the 42nd anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang.  Once fully operational, the new terminal will be able to handle between 4 and 6 million passengers annually, with 1,600 passengers per hour during the busiest periods.

The city’s International Airport, which will be used for both civil and military purposes, is expected to be able to handle 13 million passengers per year by 2020.
