Phu Gia and Phuoc Tuong tunnels open to traffic
The Phu Gia and Phuoc Tuong tunnels in Thua Thien-Hue Province recently officially opened to traffic.
Developed by the Phuoc Tuong-Phu Gia BOT Company, the new tunnels are located on Highway 1A to the north of the Hai Van Pass. The construction cost of the 447m-long Phu Gia and 375m-long Phuoc Tuong tunnels was over 1,743 billion VND in total.
Both are 12m wide, have 2 traffic lanes, and are designed to withstand a level 6 earthquake. The maximum speed limit through the tunnels is 80 kph, but bicycles and pedestrians are not permitted.

At the present moment, use of the tunnels is free due to unfinished construction work, but tolls will be introduced soon.
These tunnels will help to considerably shorten the journey time between Da Nang and Hue and should reduce the amount of traffic, and therefore the number of accidents, on the Phu Gia and Phuoc Tuong passes.
