Tourism real estate market shows positive signs

DA NANG Today
Published: December 22, 2015

By late November this year, Da Nang has in total attracted 378 valid foreign direct investment (FDI) projects worth 3.49 billion USD.  Of these, 25 projects, totalling 1.8 billion USD, are in tourism real estate.

Over recent years, the city has seen a significant increase in the number of holiday resort projects, and most of them have been operating very effectively in the city.  Among them are the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula, the Premier Village Danang Resort, the Pullman Danang Resort, the Fusion Maia, and the Hyatt Regency Danang Resort.

The main reason for these positive signs in the local tourism real estate market seems to be the development of the local tourism sector which has helped Da Nang emerge as an attractive destination for real estate investors from both home and abroad.

In particular, Da Nang was ranked 7th and 8th respectively amongst the top 10 most attractive destinations in Asia in 2013 and 2014 by the readers of Smart Travel Asia, the leading regional online travel magazine.  It also took top spot in the online travel review site TripAdvisor’s 'Destinations on the Rise in 2015' award, and was also ranked as the 6th most improved city in the world to visit in 2015 by THERICHEST magazine.

Not surprisingly therefore, there has been a significant increase in the number of tourists arriving in the city.  In 2014, the city welcomed around 3.8 million visitors, but this figure has increased to over 4.3 million this year.

The city’s infrastructure has also been improved remarkably.  There are now a total of 20 international air routes into Da Nang, and this figure is expected to rise in the years ahead.

Between January and November 2015, Da Nang has attracted 74 new tourism FDI projects, totalling 92.5 million USD, and it now has 490 hotels and resorts with a combined total of 18,233 rooms.  Ninety-one of the hotels are 3 to 5-star, and 5 are villa developments.

In an effort to promote the development of the local tourism sector, the city is appealing for more FDI inflows into high-end seaside tourism projects.  Importance is being attached to developing the Van Village tourism area into a luxury holiday and entertainment area, and diversifying the tourism services in the Ba Na-Suoi Mo ecotourism area.  Soon-to-open new developments are a golf course at the Ba Na Hills Resort and a thermal springs tourist area in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Phu Commune.
