Viet Nam’s most versatile and advanced coastguard ship of the DN2000 line, CSB 8005, was launched in Da Nang on Monday.  The multi-functional ship is the 2nd of its kind to have been designed and built for the Viet Nam Coastguard by the Song Thu Shipyard Corporation under the management of the Ministry of Defence.

The 90m-long, 14m-wide and 7m-high ship has a displacement of up to 2,400 metric tonnes.  It can operate at a maximum speed of 21 nautical miles per hour and has a range of 5,000 nautical miles.  In addition, it is able to stay at sea continuously for 40 days and can withstand a wind speed of level 12.

Addressing the launch ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted the vital role of the new ship in conducting sea patrols, fulfilling law enforcement missions at sea, and protecting the national marine environment and its fisheries resources.  This will make Vietnamese fishermen feel more secure whilst conducting their long fishing trips in Vietnamese waters, and it will help to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty over its territorial waters and its traditional fishing grounds.

Also on the same day, representatives from the Song Thu Shipyard Corporation and the Dutch Damen Shipyards Group entered into an agreement to build 4 ASD 2411 ships for export to Europe.  The building of these vessels is expected to be completed within the next 15 months.
