The Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently held a get-together for over 200 individuals and businesses involved in the city’s tourism sector. 

On behalf of the city leaders, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung highly praised the local tourism sector for its remarkable achievements last year.  He noted that the sector had had an impressive growth rate over the year, and some of the city’s high-end accommodation establishments and popular attractions received prestigious international awards.

However, he also pointed out some shortcomings in the performance of the tourism sector.  Included were unreasonable increases in room rates, the unfair competitive environment between tourism businesses, and the asynchronous development of accommodation establishments. 

The Deputy Director of the local Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Tran Chi Cuong, emphasised that his unit is focusing on improving the quality of tourist services.  More effective measures are being taken to attract more foreign visitors from Northeast Asia and Western Europe, especially the 5 Western countries which now enjoy visa exemptions in Viet Nam. 

He added that stronger efforts are being made to develop suitable strategies for the local tourism sector, create more special tourism products, and ensure a safe and friendly tourist environment.    

Also at the event, 8 businesses were awarded Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee in recognition of their great efforts in promoting the development of the city’s tourism sector in 2015.
