Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Nhon Commune has recently been recognised by the Da Nang People’s Committee as a new rural area and presented with a 100 million VND welfare project in recognition of its outstanding achievements in meeting the criteria for new rural areas.  This will serve as extra motivation for the commune as it is focusing this year on promoting its production activities in order to boost the development of the locality.

The Nhon Phuoc Mushroom Cooperative of 8 families is a typical example of one of the commune’s production units.  It has recently been given an 80 million VND oven by the city’s Industry Promotion Centre and the Farmers' Association, and a 25 million VND water spraying system by the Hoa Vang People’s Committee.  Thanks to these items, the cooperative is expecting to nearly double its production this year compared to last year.

Meanwhile, another 7 families in the commune’s Thach Nham Tay village are involved in growing bean sprouts in sand.  One grower said that 15 kilos of mung beans are used to produce 60 kilos of bean sprouts every day, and he can make between 400,000 and 500,000 VND profit on that.  In addition, there are many growing areas for clean and safe vegetables in the villages of Thach Nham Tay, Phuoc Hung Nam and Ninh An.

Apart from agriculture, Hoa Nhon Commune is also focusing on promoting the development of trades, services and handicrafts.  Currently, 160 local families are involved in mineral exploitation and trade in building materials.

Over the past 5 years, Hoa Nhon Commune has raised a total of 251.8 billion VND from domestic individuals and organisations to upgrade its rural areas.  Of this, 42.6 billion VND was donated by local residents.

The locality’s average annual per capita income is 27.23 million VND, and the poverty rate is 2.3% of the total population.

The commune is aiming to lift all its poor families out of poverty in 2016 and the aim is for the average annual per capita income to be 55 million VND by 2020.
