Approval given for Tran Phu to tunnel under Le Duan
The Da Nang People's Committee Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, recently approved a plan to build an underground tunnel along a section of Tran Phu one-way street from the back of the General Science Library to the street’s intersection with Phan Dinh Phung. The tunnel will carry traffic heading south down Tran Phu under the intersection with Le Duan at the western end of the Han Bridge.
Parts of the existing pavement areas on Tran Phu, Le Duan and the Han Bridge will be incorporated into the design for the new tunnel.
The 350m-long, 7.5m-wide tunnel will follow the centre line of Tran Phu. It will feature a 64m2 drainage pumping station, and 2 traffic lanes: one for automobiles and the other for motorbikes. Above the tunnel, there will be 2 frontage roads, each 7.5m-wide, at both sides of the tunnel, along with 2 pavements up to 3.25m wide.
The tunnel will cost around 140 billion VND to build, most of which will come from the city’s budget.
