City saves 26,100 kWh of electricity during Earth Hour
A launch ceremony for the Earth Hour 2016 initiative, themed ‘Small Action, Big Meaning’, took place in a park near the eastern end of Da Nang’s Rong (Dragon) Bridge last Saturday.
The event was jointly organised by the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, and the city’s Power Transmission Company No 2. The purpose was to raise public awareness about saving energy and protecting the environment.
After the launch ceremony, over 200 local Youth Union members cycled around major streets to convey the message of energy saving to the homes, hotels, restaurants and administrative organisations alongside.

In response to the campaign, local households, enterprises and businesses were asked to turn off lights and non-essential electrical equipment between 8.30pm and 9.30pm the same day. Thanks to this, the city saved 26,100 kWh of electricity during Earth Hour 2016, which showed an increase of 10.3% compared with last year’s event.
