The city is expected to become such a town in 2018.
The fund will be supplied by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
It will be used to provide training courses on the classification of garbage, waste treatment, and other technologies related to the construction of ecological cities such as planting trees, cleaning landscapes, and handling wastewater issues.
Besides the financial support, Japan will also share its experience in building Naha, an eco-city in Okinawa whose system balances the harmony of the environment and tourism development.
Authorities in Hoi An City will also apply a number of appropriate measures to achieve its goal of building an eco-city.
The project, to be completed by the end of 2018, is jointly managed by the People’s Committee of Hoi An City.
Located in Quang Nam Province, Hoi An City is home to the UNESCO-recognized Hoi An Ancient Town.
In 1999, Hoi An Ancient Town was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for being a well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port from the 15th to 19th centuries, and for housing buildings with a unique blend of local and foreign influences.
Since then, the culturally rich town has been voted one of the top tourist destinations in the world by several major tourism magazines.
