Tourism sector gains positive results

Published: March 28, 2016

Last year, Da Nang welcomed around 4.6 million visitors, up 20.5% against 2014, and about 1.25 million of them were foreigners.  The total revenue of the local tourism sector reached 12,700 billion VND.

These positive results were mainly attributed to the modern tourism infrastructure.  The city is now home to over 450 hotels and resorts, with a combined total of 16,500 rooms.  Tourism infrastructure has been improved significantly, including the Da Nang International Airport, seaports, and such large-scale amusement areas as Ba Na Hills Resort, Asia Park, and Da Nang Hot Spring Park.

In addition, there has been a wide range of large-scale cultural and sporting events which have been held across the city in recent years.  These included the Da Nang International Fireworks Competition, the Da Nang International Marathon, the 2015 - 2016 Clipper Round the World Race and the upcoming Asian Beach Games to be held in September.

Most notably, the attitude and behaviour of tourism sector employees towards customers has significantly improved and public awareness has been raised to develop Da Nang into an environmentally-friendly, more civilised and liveable city.

Marine tourism has considerably contributed to advertising the city’s tourism brand name to international visitors.  Da Nang boasts clean, beautiful and safe beaches.  In 2006, the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches was set up in order to enhance the effective operation of business establishments along the beaches.

Apart from the tourism infrastructure, the behaviour and attitude of local residents towards visitors and customers has also improved.

Mrs Nguyen Thi Thuy from Ha Noi said, “This is the second time I have visited Da Nang.  I am impressed with the honesty of the local people.  The Management Board of the Ba Na Hills Resort returned my lost handbag to me.”

Steve John, a Clipper Race crew member, expressed his appreciation of the helpfulness of local people.

He recalled, “During my stay in Da Nang, I walked around the city.  At one stage, I found I had lost my map and money but I met up with a kind-hearted and friendly passer-by who drove me to my hotel on his motorcycle without payment”.

Thanks to the great efforts of the local authorities and residents, Da Nang is emerging as the perfect destination for visitors from both home and abroad.
